The 2011 Freedom Award Given to Ford Motor Company

For employers who offer outstanding support to their employees serving in the National Guard and Reserve, the Freedom Award is a distinction unmatched by any other. Of the 4,000 nominations for the Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award this year, Ford Motor Company was fortunate enough to be selected as one of the 15 honorees.

Sponsored by the National Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, the Freedom Award is the highest a company can receive from the Department of Defense.

Ford’s Guard and Reserve initiatives have benefited the 700 Reservists and Guardsmen, 7,000 veterans, and 30 actively serving employees, not to mention the countless former employees who have served. Since 1974, Ford has donated more than $6 million to veteran organizations and has donated 156 cars to Disabled American Veterans (DAV) since 1996. Furthermore, Ford sponsors the DAV’s winter sports clinic and youth scholarship volunteer program.

Ford Motor Company even as a specific corporate branch for military resources, called the Ford Veterans Network Group. This Group supports Ford military personnel and their families by hosting activities, donating vehicles, offering scholarships, and supplying special car purchase programs.

The Freedom Award has rewarded Ford for these noble efforts, validating that their hard work is not only appreciated by outstanding as well.
