The Importance of Snow Tires

Snow TiresFor those of us in Steamboat Springs, We’re used to the drastic change from the summer months to the winter. We enjoy the sunny July weather and then jump right into the skiing and snowboarding when winter comes. But there is one thing that might not transition to the winter weather as well as you: your tires.

Because of the high amount of snow fall, ice, and sleet that is characteristic of winter in Steamboat Springs, your car needs to be prepared for the slippery roads and packed snow.

Enter winter tires: these tires are specifically designed to work with cold weather. They are made of a different kind of rubber that does not get as hard as regular tires. In addition, the special tread increases traction and allows water to move through the tread grooves more easily.  By channeling water, ice, and snow through the treads, these tires reduce the risk of hydroplaning or slipping.

So think back a moment to last winter and remember all those times your car slipped or you got stuck in the snow. I bet you wished you had snow tires back then. Don’t make the same mistake this winter! Head over to Steamboat Motors and get your snow tires today!

Pink Steamboat Today Newspaper Raises Big Bucks for Breast Cancer

Remember our blog post from a couple weeks back about the Steamboat Springs’ daily newspaper going PINK? On October 15, Steamboat Today published an all pink issue of the daily newspaper and donated 25% of all ad sales from that issue to breast cancer research. Well, the results are in: Steamboat Today was able to raise $3,600!

The staff at Steamboat Today was more than happy to donate that money to the Yampa Valley Medical Center and their Breast Cancer Awareness Project. What better way to support the fight against breast cancer than starting the research right in your own back yard.

Steamboat Today sends its gratitude to the 50 advertisers who made it possible to raise that money for breast cancer. For those of you who would like to support the Yampa Valley Breast Cancer Awareness Project as well, they are holding an event this Friday at the Three Peaks Grill. There will be a live auction, events, and food. All proceeds go toward the breast cancer awareness project.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month Events

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and in order to show support and spread awareness, the Steamboat Springs area is taking part in a number of events and initiatives.

First up is Ford’s Warriors in Pink. As a Ford and Chrysler dealership, Steamboat Motors is happy to support this program which sells Warriors in Pink clothing, accessories, and gifts. All of the profits from these sales go directly to the breast cancer cause. Plus, the cute products sport the Warriors in Pink logo, further raising awareness and dedication to the cause.

In addition, Steamboat Today, Steamboat Springs’s daily newspaper, is printing a special PINK newspaper on October 15. Not only will this paper be completely pink to support Breast Cancer, ad space will be available for purchase. 25% all of ad sales will then be donated to local breast cancer organizations. This is a great way to honor and support those working for and fighting against breast cancer in the Steamboat Springs region.

These are just two things out of hundreds that you can do this month to support breast cancer. To find other ways that you can help, visit the National Breast Cancer Awareness Month website.

Lend a Hand to Local Organizations in Steamboat Springs

Steamboat Motors supports a number of groups in the Steamboat Springs area, including the Winter Sports Club, Nordic Ski Council, and Winter Carnival. But this local Ford & Dodge dealer is not limited to the fun and festive organizations of Steamboat Springs. On the Contrary, Steamboat Motors is proud to lend a hand to groups that are doing their part to help the community and that are in need of some extra assistance.

First is Routt County United Way, a faction of United Way of America. As their website states, this is the “only local non-profit organization whose sole purpose is to raise funds and provide support for the health and human service needs of Routt County residents.” As such, United Way spearheads a variety of fundraising events throughout the year and encourages the help of volunteers to help them in their efforts.

Next, there is the Boys & Girls Club of Steamboat Springs. The Boys & Girls Club offers a fun yet safe place for children to play, learn, and develop into young adults. The staff works to instill a sense of accomplishment, responsibility, and self-worth into every child who comes to the club. The Boys & Girls Club also provides several programs and events for local kids to take part in.

As a community surrounded by mountains and dangerous snowy terrain, Routt County Search & Rescue is crucial for maintaining local residents’ safety. This organization is composed of volunteers who are trained for mountain search and rescue. They also work to increase awareness of mountain safety and give a helping hand during fires and floods as well.

These are just three of many organizations that work tirelessly to make Steamboat Springs a better place. Steamboat Motors is proud to support these groups and encourages you to lend a hand to your fellow members of Steamboat Springs!
