The 2011 Freedom Award Given to Ford Motor Company

For employers who offer outstanding support to their employees serving in the National Guard and Reserve, the Freedom Award is a distinction unmatched by any other. Of the 4,000 nominations for the Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award this year, Ford Motor Company was fortunate enough to be selected as one of the 15 honorees.

Sponsored by the National Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, the Freedom Award is the highest a company can receive from the Department of Defense.

Ford’s Guard and Reserve initiatives have benefited the 700 Reservists and Guardsmen, 7,000 veterans, and 30 actively serving employees, not to mention the countless former employees who have served. Since 1974, Ford has donated more than $6 million to veteran organizations and has donated 156 cars to Disabled American Veterans (DAV) since 1996. Furthermore, Ford sponsors the DAV’s winter sports clinic and youth scholarship volunteer program.

Ford Motor Company even as a specific corporate branch for military resources, called the Ford Veterans Network Group. This Group supports Ford military personnel and their families by hosting activities, donating vehicles, offering scholarships, and supplying special car purchase programs.

The Freedom Award has rewarded Ford for these noble efforts, validating that their hard work is not only appreciated by outstanding as well.

Ford SYNC Now Includes Live Operator Assistance

Just when you thought Ford SYNC could do it all, another convenience is added to the mix. In addition to traffic, news, sports, and weather information, Ford SYNC also provides connection to a live operator.

This is how it works: a driver who owns a SYNC-equipped Ford vehicle simply says “operator” out loud and they are instantly connected to a real person. The driver can then specify what business or location they would like information on. The operator can provide turn-by-turn directions, send a text message to the driver outlining the business’s contact information, connect the driver directly to the business’s phone, or send the directions directly to the vehicle.

But Ford SYNC is about more than technology. David Gersabeck, product manager of SYNC Services, says that customers are more than pleased to talk to a real person and at no cost. Plus, drivers don’t have to take their eyes off the road when accessing this SYNC service, making driving safer.
